Microsoft investigating BSOD issue on Windows 11 Update and MSI motherboard

Microsoft investigating BSOD issue on Windows 11 Update and MSI motherboard

Following a recent Windows 11 update, MSI motherboard users began reporting BSOD errors. If you’ve encountered this, then you’ll be relieved to learn that Microsoft is already aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

The update began rolling out last week. As The Verge shows, the BSOD error states that an “Unsupported processor” is being used after installing the latest KB5029351 update for Windows 11. A number of Reddit users have reported experiencing the same issue.

In a support note on the Windows Health Centre, Microsoft confirms that it is “investigating” to find the cause of this issue and roll out a fix. In the meantime, those using Windows 11’s latest update and an MSI motherboard can use the Windows Recovery tool to rollback the patch update and continue using their PC again as usual. This process may happen automatically upon restarting the system if Windows’ error correction and detection tools are working correctly.

It is possible that the issue could be linked to a recent MSI motherboard BIOS update, which adds support for Intel’s upcoming 14th-gen Core processors. These chips are rumored to be based on an improved version of the Raptor Lake architecture.
